๐Ÿงญ Addressing in these 59 countries: where things stand (October 2026)

Countries are at very different stages. Some run national digital address systems, such as Ghana's GhanaPostGPS, India's DIGIPIN and Nigeria's new NIPOST digital postcode. Others are legislating or piloting one, and others rely on P.O. boxes and local descriptions. The UPU notes that โ€œthe absence of a complete, correct and unique national address infrastructure constitutes a major socio-economic challenge for a number of developing countriesโ€ (Addressing the world โ€“ An address for everyone, 2012, p. 7).

๐Ÿ›๏ธ

National systems come first

Addressing is national infrastructure. WIA Pin Code does not replace a national address, postcode or digital address code; it can be stored alongside them.

โ˜Ž๏ธ

A location people can say and type

A 12-digit number can be read out over the phone, sent by SMS or written down, and converted back to coordinates.

๐Ÿ”—

Interoperable by design

The code is calculated directly from latitude and longitude, so any system that stores coordinates can derive it, and the published formula lets anyone check the result.

๐ŸŒ 59 countries: addressing status and classification

Each country is classified from public sources (UPU addressing sheets, national posts, government and news sources, accessed 14 October 2026). Open a country for its page, sources and a code converter.

๐Ÿงฐ What WIA Pin Code can offer

Practical uses. We do not publish impact figures that we cannot source.

๐Ÿšš

Delivery and logistics

Couriers and businesses can store a 12-digit code with an order and navigate to the cell it identifies.

๐Ÿš‘

Emergency services

A caller can read out a code that a dispatcher converts to coordinates; the conversion itself does not need an internet connection.

๐Ÿ†“

Free for citizens and governments

Individuals and public bodies can use the code and the code-calculation API without charge.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Government records

A stable coordinate key that registers (census, utilities, public services) can keep next to the official address.

๐ŸŒ

Website in 88 languages

The WIA Pin Code website interface is available in 88 languages; the code itself is numeric.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Developer tools

A code-calculation API, the WIA GIL map and an MCP server (mcp.wiacode.com) with Pin Code encode, decode and nearby tools.

๐Ÿ”ง WIA Pin Code Technical Specifications

YUJIN Transform v2 by Yeon Sam-heum, Ph.D. โ€” the published formula, in service since 11 August 2026

๐Ÿ”ข Format
12 digits, XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX. Example: Seoul City Hall (37.5665, 126.978) โ†’ 708-702-851-863.
๐Ÿ“ Cell size
Northโ€“south: 180ยฐ / 999,999 โ‰ˆ 0.00018ยฐ โ‰ˆ 20 m everywhere. Eastโ€“west: 0.36ยฐ / 1,000 โ‰ˆ 0.00036ยฐ โ‰ˆ 40 m at the equator, narrower towards the poles.
โ†ฉ๏ธ Backward compatible
The first nine digits are the v1 code (2025): every v1 code is the prefix of the v2 code for the same point, e.g. 708-702-851 โ†’ 708-702-851-863. A v1 code alone identifies a strip about 20 m ร— 40 km and is not a house-level address.
๐Ÿงฎ Formula
Latitude: โŒŠ((lat+90)/180) ร— 999,999โŒ‹ โ†’ six digits. Longitude: ฮปn = (lng+180)/360, B = โŒŠฮปn ร— 999โŒ‹, then โŒŠ(ฮปn ร— 999 โˆ’ B) ร— 1,000โŒ‹. Full specification: /docs/yujin-transform.html
๐Ÿ“ด Works offline
Encoding and decoding are plain arithmetic, so they run on a phone without an internet connection. Maps and place search need a connection.
๐Ÿ” Personal data
The code is computed from coordinates only; it contains no personal data.

๐Ÿ“‹ How we can work with a national team

What we can provide today, and steps we would agree with you. No fixed timelines and no promised outcomes.

1

Conversation

Tell us about your national address, postcode or digital address programme and what you would want a coordinate code to do.

2

Free access

Government teams get free use of the code-calculation API, the WIA GIL map and the MCP server.

3

Interoperability check

Together we test how WIA Pin Codes map to your existing records (addresses, postcodes, digital address codes). The national system stays the reference.

4

Local pilot

If useful, a small pilot whose area, partners and duration are agreed with the responsible national authorities.

5

Joint review

We review the pilot results together and publish only what the data show.

6

Next steps

The national authority decides whether and how to continue.
